Description
The Bamboos’ incendiary version of The Winstons’ classic drum ‘n’ bass/breakbeat inspiring track “Amen Brother” has been a staple of their live set since the early days, and the pulse-raising extended drum explosion in the middle section whips up a frenzy every time. Now, this sure-fire DJ weapon finally gets its own 7” release as the second single off the current album, ‘Side Stepper’.
Led by musical visionary Lance Ferguson – aka Lanu – Australian outfit The Bamboos are widely regarded as one of the tightest funk bands in the world, and are picking up new fans from all corners of the musical spectrum with each new release. Their last single, the quirky, mod soul infused “King Of The Rodeo” featuring Megan Washington, was playlisted on BBC London and featured as the ‘X-Posure Hot One’ on John Kennedy’s XFM X-Posure show, as well as gaining major support from Mark Lamarr (BBC Radio 2), George Lamb (BBC 6Music), Gary Crowley (BBC London), and Edward Adoo (NME Radio).
The Bamboos count Mr Scruff, Keb Darge, DJ Food, Kenny Dope and Snowboy among their fans, and have garnered rave reviews in such diverse publications as The Independent on Sunday, Hip Hop Connection, Clash Magazine and Blues & Soul and featured collaborations with Alice Russell and Ohmega Watts (Ubiquity).
The B Side on this 7” is an original track – “Tears Cried” featuring Kylie Auldist is a slice of soul heaven with a syncopated bassline and a massive chorus. These two tracks are a snapshot into the diversity of sound The Bamboos have produced on ‘Side Stepper’, which segues between the perfect JB’s-style floor fillers for which The Bamboos have become known and the rich jazz-informed harmonies of Kylie Auldist voiced numbers.
