"The Truth (DJ Jazzy Jeff & James Poyser Remix)" is the highly anticipated new single from LA neo-soul trio Moonchild. Heralding a new remix from the Philly creatives, the single also highlights the emotive “Nobody” from their debut album on Tru Thoughts, 'Please Rewind', which was officially released in 2015.

Moonchild’s 2015 album ‘Please Rewind’ captured the hearts of tastemakers internationally and has been well-received by DJs including: Gilles Peterson, Don Letts, Robert Elms (BBC Radio London), Jamie Cullum, Anthony Valadez (KCRW), and recommended by Huey Morgan as his record of the week. The album also gained a flurry of press and online support from Echoes Magazine, Saint Heron and Kick Mag. The band’s second single was met with an equally attentive reaction from KCRW who featured “Don’t Wake Me” as their ‘Today’s Top Tune’

Amber Navran (vocals, tenor saxophone), Max Bryk (alto saxophone, flute, clarinet, keyboards) and Andris Mattson (trumpet/flugelhorn, keyboards, synth bass) met in 2012 in their junior year at the University of Southern California in the Jazz Studies programme. Inspired by the respected hip hop and progressive electronic music scene in LA, the group’s sound continues to blossom as they create music influenced by the likes of J Dilla, Flying Lotus and D’Angelo - all ofwhomhave been prevalent in broadening the groups musical horizons over the years, leading up to the production of their 2015 release - ‘Please Rewind’.

In a whirlwind three years Moonchild have self-released two albums, and collaborated or toured with highly-respected names in the soul-jazz crowd including Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott, India.Arie, Leela James, Grammy Nominated band The Internet (Odd Future’s Syd tha Kyd & Matt Martians) and more. In the past year Moonchild have played an impressive 50+ gigs; travelling coast to coast, they’ve stormed the festival scene, hitting up Capital, Arizona, San Diego and Montreal Jazz Festivals as well as Manhattan Beach Music, Sundays In The Redwoods, and North Carolina’s Art of Cool Festival. Along the way Moonchild have picked up a host of iconic supporters from Robert Glasper and Laura Mvula to James Poyser, Jazzy Jeff, Jose James and Tyler, The Creator who have all shown love for the band.

DJ Jazzy Jeff and James Poyser rework the “The Truth” by carving silvery keys through a laid-back groove to create a smooth, future jazz vibe. DJ Jazzy Jeff–the prolific DJ and Will Smith’s Fresh Prince partner–and legendary producer, The Roots member and deft keys-player James Poyser (who’s worked with Erykah, D’Angelo and Kanye to name a few) have come together for a second time to remix the popular Moonchild track. They first linked up to remix Moonchild’s self-released single “Be Free” in 2013 and have returned this time with comparable force. Reflectingon the meanings behind the lyrics, Amber explains “I wrote about being stressed out with life but having people who love you to get you through.”

The B-side “Nobody” is a lush orchestral track with rich strings and elated harmonies. Full of emotion, Navran’s voice croons with a gentle and smoky charm. “The addition of strings, celeste, and French horn really brought a cool orchestral sound to the track” Andris reveals. “We hadn’t experimented with that sound before, but instantly fell in love with it”. Moonchild’s music identifies with the markings of raw, young talent; uninhibited arrangement and Navran’s honest life lessons, to create a curiously mature yet refreshing sound.
