I See / The Sunchaser
~ Asterion + Neil Cowley / Diesler + The Jazzinvaders
- Label: Other
- Cat Number: BUTR2
The Buried Treasure label is managed by Diesler (Jonathan Radford) & Jung Collective (Alan Gubby), two UK producers with a fine pedigree in creating floor friendly funk, edits, remixes & electro grooves. Their 2nd release is a double A side 7” vinyl & download package of futuristic boogie & frenzied jazz room beats featuring “The Sunchaser II” by Diesler & The Jazzinvaders + “I See” by Asterion featuring Neil Cowley.
Asterion is the musical guise of musician, DJ & producer Adam Hurst. With a background in broken jazz, funk & soul, Adam’s been on a beat making trail for 10 years, remixing Loretta Heywood (Coldcut), Alison David, The Brewing Calm & Madosini. “I See” takes disco & funk into the future with lush strings, vocoded voices & fat synth bass. It also features top UK keyboardist Neil Cowley. Having played on albums by Brand New Heavies, Zero 7 & both of Adele’s global bestsellers 19 and 21, Neil is possibly the most listened to pianist on the planet! On ‘I See’ he delivers soulful 1970’s Fender Rhodes (referencing Herbie Hancock’s seminal Thrust album) & futuristic synths. His band, the Neil Cowley Trio won the 2007 BBC Jazz Award for Best Album & in 2012 won Best UK Jazz Act at the Jazz FM Awards. Finally, the track gets a floor friendly edit by radiophonic folkster REVBJELDE (Alan Gubby).
Since his debut on Tru Thoughts in 2003, Diesler has produced 4 studio albums, remixed over 50 artists, DJ’d & performed with a 9 piece band across Europe, garnering support from the likes of Zane Lowe (BBC Radio 1), Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music) & Mr.Scruff (Ninja Tune). He hosts popular podcast 'A Little Something Radio' & monthly residency 'You Dig?' at The Soup Kitchen in Manchester. On this release Diesler works with long-time collaborators The Jazzinvaders to create a hot piece of dance floor jazz. Having just released their 4th album 'That's What You Say!' with legendary hammond player Dr. Lonnie Smith (George Benson, Dizzy Gillespie, Etta James, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight) the Dutch ensemble are adding more European dates to their tour of Germany, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK & Japan to support one of their best albums to date.
